Abstract
This edited book got thirteen chapters divided in THREE parts, written by experts of IoK. One dimension is that it represents a renewed discourse from a new generation of Islamization of Knowledge (IOK) scholars, building on the foundational work of earlier pioneers like Al-Faruqi, Al-Attas, Kamal Hassan and Osman Bakar (with due respect for honorific titles). Each chapter of the book adds advantage of the last few decades of scholarly discussions that refined and renewed the original ideas and built on them and therefore introduced to us the most refined version of IOK so far, specifically the Integration of Knowledge and Tawhidic Epistemology approaches. A second dimension of this book’s unique contribution is that the book tackles new academic disciplines beyond the traditional social sciences, such as experimental sciences, engineering, management, and philosophy. A third dimension of this book’s unique contribution is a discourse it presented on experiments that attempted to realize the IOK theories in our Ummah’s educational and research institutional reality, namely, the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and the Gombak Integrated School of Thought. At this crucial phase in our Ummah’s history, we need the ideas that this book presents for the Islamic thought -and the civilization it envisions- to take the lead and offer an alternative, not just co-exist, justify or apologize. In sum, this intellectual exercise highlights how this book makes a unique and timely contribution to advancing Islamic thought and how it envisions an alternative Islamic civilization, rather than just co-existing or justifying the status quo. May Allah bestow His highest rewards on all of those who contributed to this work, starting with its editor. All praise is due to Allah...
