Abstract

Globally, the halal industry is expected to have the potential to grow to about 2.4 trillion dollars by 2024. This is due to the “Halal” appendage to a product is not just a guarantee that the product is permitted for Muslims, but it has also become a global symbol for quality assurance and lifestyle choice. However, the halal industries in many Muslim countries are still fragmented, and many issues still need attention. This chapter will discuss the issue that requires solutions, and the rest of the chapters will try to tackle some of the selected issues in a scientific way. Among the issues that will be discussed in this chapter are halal certification processes, awareness and perception of consumers, cost and market competitiveness, halal supply chains and logistics, halal traceability and authentication, equal acceptance among certification bodies, and legal issues in halal pharmaceuticals.
