Abstract
Academic Vocabulary is not as easy as it sounds, and English as a Second Language (ESL) students often struggle to use the appropriate vocabulary in a specific domain due to several factors. One of the methods for overcoming this problem is by applying the corpus-based approach in vocabulary learning. Thus, this study was conducted to identify ESL students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of a corpus tool (SKELL) in developing their Academic Vocabulary proficiency. Five participants were interviewed to identify their perceptions of using SKELL in their classroom, and a thematic analysis was conducted on the data. The findings showed that the participants have a positive perception of using SKELL because it provides very clear examples, makes it easy to identify formal and informal patterns through SKELL’s collocation, expands their vocabulary, and have a straightforward and user-friendly interface.
