Abstract

This research paper studies the role of social ethics in managing ethnic diversity among the members of the Muslim community of the CIS countries in the light of Qur’ānic approach by reflecting on a few selected verses related to al-’Amr bi al-Maʿrūf wa al-Nahy ʿan al-Munkar (enjoining right and forbidding wrong). Ethnic diversity might be used as a tool to ignite conflicts among the members of a multi-ethnic society if it is not properly and timely managed. The goal of this study is to understand the relationship between social ethics and ethnic diversity and to show how social ethics is utilized to manage ethnic differences by analyzing the content of selected Qur’ānic verses dealing with this subject. This work discusses the meaning of ethnic diversity, the CIS countries’ ethnicities, social ethics, and al-’Amr bi al-Maʿrūf wa al-Nahy ʿan al-Munkar. The steps on how to use social ethics in managing ethnic diversity based on the selected Qur’ānic verses dealing with the divine injunction al-’Amr bi al-Maʿrūf wa al-Nahy ʿan al-Munkar, are examined. The findings of this paper are expected to offer new ways and understandings for ethnic diversity management and the prevention of conflicts among members of multiethnic societies.
