Abstract

Islamic scholars have left a rich reservoir of scholarship. If global Islamic communities do not have sufficient numbers of competent writers, academics, and intellectuals to appreciate, evaluate, preserve, and promote it, that scholarship will remain hidden within book covers and libraries. That will be an insurmountable loss with disastrous consequences. There will be fewer scholars to present the teachings of Islam to future generations and fewer still to defend the religion against epistemic violence and misrepresentations. Great Islamic personalities who are alive have cause for concern about their legacies and should consider if they have capable successors to understand and appreciate them after they have passed away.
