Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs of Year 6 primary school students in learning Arabic vocabulary and to explore the potential for supporting these needs through the design of an interactive audio digital book. The study adopted a descriptive methodology using a needs analysis approach, utilizing questionnaires and interviews to collect data from both students and the Arabic language teacher. The results of the study revealed that students possess a positive motivation toward learning the Arabic language. However, they face challenges understanding, remembering, and using new vocabulary correctly in context, particularly verbs and their various forms. Furthermore, the findings revealed a clear preference for interactive, auditory, and visual methods such as images, audio, quizzes, and stories, alongside a need for educational materials that are concise and easy to understand. The study also indicated variation in digital device accessibility among students, emphasizing the necessity of designing a flexible digital resource that can be utilized both inside and outside the classroom under teacher supervision. In light of these findings, the study concluded that the design of an interactive audio digital book is a suitable option for supporting the development of Arabic vocabulary among Year 6 students, provided it takes into account learners' characteristics and the realities of the educational environment.
