Abstract

This study examines novel Imam by Abdullah Hussain applying the Genuine Literature (Persuratan Baru) theory developed by Mohd Affandi Hassan. It discusses about Muslim writers responsibility (taklif) to create literature works that reflect Islamic principles and values. It also highlights the beautiful and meaningful way ideas should be shared and published, staying true to Islamic principles and aesthetics. The theory opposes the dominance of Western theories ideas and encourages an Islamic perspective in literature world. Genuine Literature also stresses the importance of seeking true knowledge that combines both the mind and the heart, while rejecting shallow minded thinking (pandirisme). By using this approach, this article explores how Imam embodies these values by encouraging deep thought, moral growth, and an authentic Islamic identity.
