Abstract

Medical students need to learn and memorize a lot of information from a lecture. One of the pharmacology topics that students must learn during their second year is diuretic drugs. An exciting content and presentation are important to engage the students’ attention and focus during the lecture. Diuretics Field Trip with Dr Nour El Huda was developed to help students to have better memorization of the lecture and, at the same time, to enjoy the online class. Using the method of memorization by relating the information with images, mnemonics, sounds, and imagination, the Diuretics Field Trip with Dr Nour El Huda pictured tourist attractions in Pahang on a nephron of a kidney. A video with music was featured during the lecture showing the pictures of these places, which include Cameron Highland, Orang Asli settlement, Lanchang Kuala Gandah, Genting Highland and Kuantan. It was followed by a presentation of a diagram of a nephron in relation to the classification of the drugs (carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, osmotic diuretics, loop diuretics, thiazides and potassium-sparing diuretics), sites of action and the transporters that act at each location, with the attraction places. The interaction with students during the lecture showed that this technique helped the students to grab the concept, memorize the information better and easier. The memorization of the diuretics obtained from the lecture will be helpful for the students during their examinations and will be applied in their studies during the clinical years, and when they work as medical doctors in the future.
