Abstract
The first part of the paper provides an exposition to Muhammad Abduh's ideas of reform. He is considered as one of the most influential and progressive thinkers of modern age due to his contributions and significant roles in the awakening of the Muslim Ummah. Meanwhile, the second part of the paper highlights the influence Abduh's reform in the Malay world. It exposes the approaches of Malay reformists in various areas of reform ranging from religious to socio cultural, educational, and political aspects. It was found that the Malay reformists were influenced by the methods and issues advocated by Abduh and tried to interpret them in accordance with the context of their time and place.
