Abstract

This article examines the emerging signs of political unease among supporters of Donald Trump and considers whether the durability of his political base may be tested by the domestic consequences of his administration's policies. It argues that political loyalty, even within highly polarised environments, cannot be assumed to remain permanent when economic pressures, policy uncertainties, and geopolitical decisions begin to affect the everyday interests of voters. The article highlights the importance of the United States midterm elections as a potential measure of public confidence in Trump's leadership and the wider Republican political agenda. It further contends that the strength of Trump's political movement has traditionally rested on its ability to sustain a direct connection with voters who perceive established political institutions as unresponsive to their concerns. However, growing dissatisfaction among segments of this constituency may expose tensions between political rhetoric and the practical consequences of governance. The article concludes that while Trump's support base remains politically significant, emerging doubts among his supporters should not be dismissed. Their changing perceptions may shape electoral behaviour, influence the balance of power within the United States, and determine the future trajectory of Trump's political influence.
