Abstract

Tarihsel olarak bilinen adıyla Malay Takımadaları’nda ya da günümüzde Güneydoğu Asya’da özellikle, Endonezya ve Malezya Federasyonu adıyla anılan ulus-devletlerdeki halkın önemli bir bölümü, İslami geçmişleri ile tanınırlar. Bölge halkının, uzun döneme yayılan İslamlaşma sürecinde, yerli ve yabancı hocaların kurup geliştirdikleri eğitim kurumları çeşitli açılardan önemli roller icra etmiştir. Bölge toplumlarının İslami eğitim ihtiyaçları hiç kuşku yok ki, diğer bölgelerdeki eğitim kurumlarıyla benzerlikler gösterdiği gibi, çeşitli bağlamlarıyla kurumsal yapılaşmada farklılıklar da gözlemlenmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Endonezya ve Malezya’da İslami eğitim gerçeği genel bir yaklaşımla ele alınacaktır. Bu çerçevede, söz konusu bu iki ulus- devletteki Müslüman kitlelerin, dini eğitim ihtiyaçlarının ve bunları yapısal olarak hayata geçirme pratiklerinin, diğer Müslüman çoğunluğun hâkim olduğu toplumlardan farklılık arz ettiğine ve kendi sosyo-kültürel toplumsal gerçekliği içerisinde değerlendirilmesi gerektiğine dikkat çekilecektir. Bu noktada, uzun sömürgecilik döneminin ardından, bu bölgedeki geniş toplum kesimleri İslami kimliklerini korurken, yeni ulus-devlet yönetimleri, bu toplumsal gerçekliği göz ardı etmeyerek, İslami eğitimi halkın taleplerine uygun gelecek şekilde kurumsal olarak yapılandırmışlardır. Bu durum, egemen bir güç olarak devletin, halk nezdinde meşruiyetini sağlamada bir işlev görmüştür. Malay Takımadaları’nda İslami eğitime (İslami eğitimin ulusal yönetimselliklerle ilişkisine ve ortaya çıkan uyarlanma süreçlerine) dair genel bir çerçeve sunma iddiasındaki bu çalışma, ilgili dönemlerde sahada gözlemler, gayri-resmi görüşmeler ve dokümantasyon yöntemiyle ortaya konulmuştur. ***** A significant segment of the population in Indonesia and the Federation of Malaysia in Southeast Asia, historically known as the Malay Archipelago, is known for its Islamic past. In the long-term Islamization process of the region's people, educational institutions established and developed by local and foreign religious scholars have played essential roles in various aspects. While the Islamic educational needs of the societies in the region undoubtedly show similarities with the institutions in other areas, differences in institutional structures are also observed in various contexts. This study embraces a general approach to the reality of Islamic education in Indonesia and Malaysia. In this context, it will be emphasized that the needs for the religious education of the Muslim masses and the practices of implementing these structurally in these two nation-states differ from those of other societies dominated by the Muslim majority and should be evaluated within their socio-cultural social reality. At this point, while large segments of society in this region preserved their Islamic identities after the long colonial period, the new nation-state administrations have not ignored this social reality and institutionally structured Islamic education in a way that would suit the people's demands. This situation has also ensured the state's legitimacy as a sovereign power in the eyes of the people. This study, which claims to present a general framework for Islamic education in the Malay Archipelago, was put forward through field observations, informal interviews, and documentation methods in the relevant periods.
