Abstract

fragmented governance, uneven community participation, and limited recognition of entrepreneurial ecosystems, particularly informal networks. While agritourism has been widely discussed globally, the role of informal entrepreneurial ecosystems in rural Malaysia remains underexplored, representing a significant research gap. Guided by Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Theory (EET), this scoping review aims to explore the contribution of entrepreneurial ecosystems, particularly informal networks and social capital, to the resilience and scalability of rural agritourism in Malaysia. Literature published between 2021 and 2025 was reviewed using Google Scholar and Scopus, synthesising findings across policy, community, and entrepreneurial themes. The review finds that policy fragmentation and institutional weaknesses are persistent global and local barriers, that community participation remains inconsistent despite its critical role, and that informal entrepreneurial ecosystems are essential for resilience where formal support is weak. This study highlights practical implications for strengthening regulation, enhancing institutional and community support, and leveraging informal networks. Theoretically, it enriches EET by extending it to the Malaysian agritourism context. Keywords: Agritourism, Rural Development, Community-Based Tourism, Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, Malaysia
