Abstract

This chapter explores the contribution of AbdulHamid AbuSulayman to the Islamic reform projects and methodologies, especially his analytical approach toward the crisis of the existing state of Muslim societies and Islamic Thought. AbuSulayman’s methodology of the Islamic reform project in the light of his discourse – Asalah, is critically analyzed. In the chapter, the researchers have used the qualitative thematic analysis method in terms of data collection and analysis. The focus of discussion in this chapter includes, firstly, a brief introduction emphasizing the problem statement, literature review, and methodology. Secondly, the intellectual background of AbdulHamid AbuSulayman is presented. Thirdly, the malaise of Ummah and its root cause from the perspective of AbuSulayman is discussed. Fourthly, his critical view on traditional and modern methodologies is critically analyzed. Finally, his Asala-based reform methodology is examined, as well as the outcome of this work is presented in the conclusion.
