Abstract

This pilot study explores the educational leadership awareness of academic administrators at the Centre for Foundation Studies, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and its impact on administrative practices and student experience. Academic administrators significantly influence both the educational environment and student successes. However, there is limited understanding of their current level of educational leadership awareness and the factors that affect it. Additionally, the impact of this awareness on administrative practices and student experience remains underexplored. The pilot study aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of educational leadership awareness and its impact on administrative practices and student experience. Utilizing a quantitative research approach, this study employs a cross-sectional survey design to gather data from a stratified random sample of academic administrators. The Educational Leadership Practice Inventory (ELPI), an AI-generated validated instrument assessing various leadership dimensions, will be used to measure educational leadership awareness. Descriptive statistics will summarize the levels of educational leadership awareness, while inferential statistics, including correlation analysis, will examine the relationships between these variables. Findings highlight the need for development of targeted leadership training programs and support mechanisms, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of educational leadership at IIUM. By addressing the gap in understanding educational leadership awareness, this research seeks to contribute to overall institutional improvement and better student experience through more effective leadership. The insights gained will be valuable for developing strategies to enhance leadership competencies among academic administrators, fostering a more conducive educational environment.
