Abstract
This article aims to investigate challenges of the new technologies on Islamic education system. The progress in educational technologies have significantly influenced the content, methods of instruction and assessment over the last few decades. Distance learning, free movement of ideas, thoughts, and values that can be generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI), are the characteristic features of the educational system today. The rapid development and consistent progress of educational technologies not only impacted the teaching and learning process positively, but also posed critical questions and serious challenges at different levels of complexity. The key question in such situation is about position of the Islamic education, as an integrated system of knowledge and values which aims at producing balanced personalities. This article aims to highlight this question and investigate impacts of the new technologies on Islamic education system and its final objectives. The method of analysis is centred upon the four elements of educational process, which are the recipient, goals, the content, and method of communication. Building upon these components, the paper has attempted to clarify fundamentals of the Islamic philosophy of education. Discussing the basic challenges and prospects of modern technologies on Islamic education, the paper has concluded that embracing the new AI technologies in Islamic education, with a critical and open-minded perspective, is essential to approach the technological integration. Careful and critical examination of the new technologies is necessary to ensure that the technological advancements are aligned with the principles and objectives of Islamic education. The method adopted is theoretical and analytical in nature. It is expected that the outcomes of the paper will provide clear educational guidelines to harness the potential prospects of new educational technologies and to mitigate its challenges in Muslim societies.
