Abstract

This study intends to scrutinize the fundamental doctrine of “Enjoining Good and Forbidding Wrong,” which is a cornerstone of Islam, to guide Muslims towards moral conduct and deter unjust actions. People often misinterpret this teaching to coerce others into accepting Islam, despite its foundation in the Quran and Prophetic traditions. Muslims are expected to actively participate in advancing righteousness and safeguarding against wickedness. The practice of “enjoining good and forbidding wrong” encourages virtues like honesty, justice, compassion, and piety while opposing vices like lying, oppression, greed, and immorality. This principle promotes a culture of responsibility, honesty, and moral purity within the Muslim community, contributing to the overall well-being and cohesion of their community. However, after understanding the term linguistically, this paper attempts to provide an in-depth analysis of the concept of “Enjoining Good and Forbidding Wrong” from Quranic and Prophetic tradition perspectives, followed by a detailed discussion of its objectives. Furthermore, the current research portrays the urge to perform “Enjoining Good and Forbidding Wrong” from a contemporary modern perspective by suggesting a well-balanced methodology derived from the Quran and Sunnah. Finally, this analysis concludes by mentioning that the principle of “Enjoining Good and Forbidding Wrong” is a daily reminder to Muslims that their religion is not simply a personal search but a societal effort that involves active engagement and a persistent commitment to sustaining the moral and ethical standards of Islam, and it is a constant reminder to Muslims that their faith is not merely a personal pursuit but a collective endeavor that requires active engagement and a steadfast commitment to upholding the moral and ethical principles of Islam.
