Abstract
Islam pays great attention to animals, as they are a source of livelihood for humans. Horses are among the animals that have multiple economic and social benefits, and horses play an important role in the human economy since ancient times until today. Their importance is gained from being an adornment for humans, as mentioned in the Holy Quran. The Quran did not merely mentioned it but to allude to its economic and social importance. However, people do not realize the benefits that differ from its zakat, because it has become one of the old vehicles, so they think that it was created only for playing and competitions, and that zakat is not obligatory on it. This research aims to clarify the legal ruling on dealing with horses, and the conditions for its zakat. This research relies on the critical analytical approach of the legal evidence and its strength and credibility, and its compatibility with the objectives of Sharia. It also relies on the jurisprudential study of the different opinions on paying zakat on horse, and discussing the legal evidence that supports each opinion. One of the most important findings of the research is that paying horse zakat leads to strengthening social solidarity and supporting the needy, and also contributes to improving the local economy. Muslims should be made aware of the importance zakat on horse and its social and economic benefits
