Abstract

Agriculture, a practice that has sustained human civilization for millennia, is evolving to accommodate the growing demands of our society. The evolution of agriculture was portrayed by ecological mechanisms, such as unintentional selection resulting from competition among growing plants in artificial surroundings. Agriculture has significantly contributed to human and economic progress by enhancing human capital regarding economic growth, ensuring food security, and supporting sustainable development. Moreover, agriculture is often not considered an innovative sector because of its relevance and contributions to general economic growth, increased food availability, and improved global nutrition requirements. Despite the recent global epidemic, the agricultural industry maintains a good demand regardless of circumstances. However, to satisfy the requirement of extensive food production, this industry also gives rise to bad consequences such as increased deforestation, water pollution, land degradation, and greenhouse gas emissions. According to the Islamic perspective, agricultural activity is an important component of Islamic sustainable development since it upholds the relationship between the Creator, people, and the environment. It also integrated with the halal and toyyib agriculture features as well as syari'ah ruling. Besides, sustainable agriculture practices are considered an attempt to address the challenge of maintaining natural resources while ensuring local food security. Hence, the intersection of Islamic civilization and advancements in agriculture significantly impacts maintaining societies and emphasizes the necessity of conscientious management of environmental resources.
