Abstract
Higher education institutions play a pivotal role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Values-based leadership, a concept that is gaining prominence in academics for global relevance and citizenship. Leadership with empathy is one of the critical aspects of leadership development in the academia landscape. As subject matter experts, professors have a unique opportunity and responsibility to contribute to and propagate Values-based leadership in their teaching and learning, research, and publications and other academic activities. In the Malaysian context, the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) is a critical organisation that acts as the Institution that coordinates profiling and development programmes for the National Top Talent (NTT) to ensure sustainable leadership in Higher Education Institutions. AKEPT’s mission to develop leaders through holistic leadership initiatives towards excellence is supported by talent management offices in all Malaysian Public Universities.
