Abstract
ABSTRACT This research discusses an important contemporary issue that is the marriage of a Muslim man to a woman from the People of the Book (kitābiyyah) in light of contemporary sociological exegesis. Many Muslims, for various reasons, migrated to the West and had to adapt and assimilate themselves. As such, some of them also desire to marry locals from the People of the Book. Consequently, many issues arise from the marriage of a Muslim man to kitābiyyah, especially that related to aḥkām. Although this issue was addressed by jurists and exegetes of the past, yet contemporary sociological exegetes have formulated new forms of rulings pertaining to this issue. The researchers explore the opinions of the contemporary exegetes, especially those affiliated with the school sociological exegesis, on resolving this issue in light of the Qurʾān.
