Abstract

Cash Waqf or Waqf an Nuqud has continuously contributed to the advancement of Waqf in Malaysia. It is one of the most important aspects of corporate Waqf which has contributed to third sector economy by providing options through its financial security and sustainability. Cash waqf was initially introduced in Bursa, Turkey in the 14th or 15th century. This paper studies the origin of cash waqf, traces its history and reports it development as part of the Waqf institution in Malaysia. This paper aims to trace the development of cash waqf in Turkey and Malaysia using qualitative research method. The results show that the influences of Ottoman waqf in general and cash Waqf in general are diverse and consistent. It marks the success in Waqf development in Malaysia and other Muslim and minority Muslim jurisdiction.
