Abstract

`Semitik` adalah perkataan yang diperkenalkan oleh Schalozer pada tahun 1871 untuk menunjukkan kumpulan bahasa yang berkembang daripada bahasa Ibrani, Pheonic, Hebrew, Arab, Yaman, Babylon dan Assyria (al-Wafi, 1988, ms. 6). Atau juga difahami sebagai bahasa dari keturunan nabi Nuh (Roux, 1965, p. 124). Dari zaman umur paleolitik lagimanusia adalah pengasas kepada tamadun dunia. Dan kejayaan mereka ini bergantung kepada kestabilan struktur politik,budaya dan geografi. Kajian linguistik adalah bentuk bantuan penting dalam menganalisis perkembangan mereka. Penulisan purba telah membuktikan bahawa terdapat asas yang kukuh tentang tamadun manusia ini. Justeru itu kepelbagaian bahasa merupakan asas perbezaan bangsa, geografi, pemikiran dan adat resam bagi sesuatu kaum keadaan ini semuanya bermula di lembah Mesopotamia (Reiner, 1990, ms. 61).
