Abstract

Microbial coagulants have earned immense scientific attention since they are biodegradable, produce no secondary pollution, and their degraded intermediates are safe for humans and their immediate environment. Publications on various microbial coagulants have been examined. The great potential of biodegradable microbial coagulants was realized as many of them could in the laboratory scale exhibit flocculating activity within the range of 70 to 90%). The selection of the best fermentation technique for a specific product or enzyme is highly considered. This brief review paper discusses the two kinds of fermentative methods: solid-state fermentation and liquid-state fermentation used to produce microbial coagulants by various microorganisms.
