Abstract
Nowadays, children are assumed to be digital by default. Technology shapes and influences their daily lives. Without sufficient education and training, young children can easily utilise digital media. Because of changes in families' daily life, such extensive digital impact has made parenting more complex. Children and families face both new learning opportunities and risks because of digital media. Because children are vulnerable to digital risks, parents are expected to play a mediating role in their children's digital life. However, many parents are still unaware of how to parent their children best digitally, sometimes choosing restrictive ways that may ultimately hinder children's capacity to capitalise on the opportunities provided by digital technologies. Keywords: Digital Parenting, Digital Benefits, Digital Risks, Malaysian parents, Digital Media instead consider their children’s interactions with digital devices in terms of risks and opportunities. Parents must Parents should accept that to take advantage of the potential provided by the internet, they must tackle the risks. As such, this study looks at how Malaysian parents perceive and negotiate the risks and benefits of their children’s digital media usage by surveying 645 Malaysian parents from different demographic backgrounds. The study found that Malaysian parents have a balanced view by perceiving digital media as equally risky and beneficial to their children
