Abstract

Background: Parents of preterm infants often experience distress and low confidence, particularly during the transition from NICU to home. Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with 12 parents of preterm infants (24–34 weeks’ gestation) recruited purposively. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and thematically analysed. Results: Four themes were identified: (1) emotional shock and disrupted parental confidence; (2) navigating caregiving across the NICU-to-home transition; (3) the need for practical and repeatable education; and (4) family support as shared emotional and practical care. Conclusion: Parents described a need for clear, repeated, practical, and family-inclusive education across the transition from the NICU to home. Further research is needed to determine whether these approaches influence parental confidence, caregiving practices, or infant outcomes.
