In terms of planning of UOSs, collaboration between local authorities and community including broader urban planning process and wider green infrastructure network is crucial. To ensure safety in public spaces, the important factors are: UOSs planning and managing urban settlements; core principles for achieving safety in public spaces; good maintenance, higher illumination and lighting sources, and take into account about the crime-related perceived safety; careful planning of UOSs as assembly areas for emergency evacuation; risk assessment; and fulfils legal and other requirements. Meanwhile, for safe evacuation and rescue, rescue facilities, rescue routes, evacuation routes and shelters are provided in UOSs. In conclusion, the significance of UOSs from safety perspectives is vital.
