Abstract
Malaysia is observed of having inaccessible public buildings and does not comply with the Malaysian Standard (MS) design requirements. Accessibility into and from buildings is widely associated with equal access for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) to attend to their daily routine in an urban community. It emphasizes that access to the urban environment impacts inclusive participation in society. The lack of access has been a problem that is yet to be enforced by law at the national, state, and local levels for accessibility in public buildings. Hence, formulation of implementation strategies in policies to enforceable building laws and regulations are essential for Malaysian cities. Furthermore, envisioning implementation of Universal Design are imbedded into policy, implementation, monitoring and enforcement to impact all various sectors. These initiatives would help tackle the root problem and promote effective implementation in increasing accessibility in Malaysian cities in becoming ‘City for All’ by 2030.
