Abstract
The digital era has profoundly transformed patterns of religious socialization within Muslim families. Through social media, online platforms, and internet-based communication, the moral authority once anchored in family and customary figures has shifted toward a digital space that is increasingly individualistic and algorithmic. This transformation has directly weakened the moral role of the mamak (maternal uncle) in the religious upbringing of his kemenakan in Minangkabau society, without implying that all mamak uniformly fulfil this role; the focus is on its moral dimension at the personal and kinship levels. The study aims to reconstruct the moral role of the mamak in Minangkabau Islamic education in the digital era, grounded in Sunnah values and local wisdom. A qualitative library-research design with field confirmation was employed, with scholarly literature and classical hadith collections as the primary data, supported by a purposively selected set of contextual interviews with Minangkabau adat practitioners. Data were analysed using descriptive-analytical, socio-pedagogical, and thematic-contextual hadith (mawḍūʻī) approaches, and interpreted through attachment, ecological-systems, and social-identity perspectives. The findings show that digitalization has progressively marginalized the mamak's involvement in shaping the religious identity of the kemenakan, while Sunnah values concerning the moral responsibility of adult male kin remain normatively relevant. The study proposes the Hybrid Kinship Pedagogy model, positioning the mamak as moral mentor, cultural mediator, and digital-literacy companion.
