Abstract
The Moroccans have shown remarkable attention to Imam al-Bukhari’s Sahih, recognizing its esteemed status and its paramount authority in the field of Hadith. Consequently, they have relied primarily on Ibn Saʾādah’s narration of the al-Saḥīḥ, which has been preferred and prioritised throughout history. This article utilised historical methodology to demonstrate the Moroccans’ attention to Imam al-Bukhari’s al-Saḥīḥ, elucidating their selection of Ibn Sa’ādah’s version over others. Additionally, descriptive methodology is utilised to analyse the book “Tashnīf al-Masāmiʿ bibaʿḍi Farāʾid al-Jāmiʿ” by Sheikh ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-ʿArif al-Fāsī (d. 1036H), which incorporate Ibn Saʾādah’s narration. The study aims to extract the author’s methodology in explaining the as-Saḥīḥ, alongside introducing his biography, the book’s content, its compositional methodology and the manuscript copies of “Tashnīf al-Masāmiʿ” that we were able to access. The key findings of this research reveal that the Moroccans have shown exceptional attention to Saḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, as evidenced by the availability of its numerous copies and commentaries, the emergence of Moroccan scholars specializing in it, the establishment of dedicated gatherings for its completion, and the reliance on Ibn Saʾādah’s version due to its being copied from a manuscript collated with one directly from Imam Bukhari’s handwriting. “Tashnīf al-Masāmiʿ” is considered one of the books transmitted from the original version of Ibn Saʾādah’s script. It contains numerous insights, benefits and exclusive inputs. Its author has made significant contributions to the science of hadith through teaching and authorship and his Sufi background highlights the role of Sufis in disseminating and serving the sunnah.
