Abstract

Malaysian schools are o en met with the major challenge of ensuring safe, efficient, and transparent school commutes. Traditional attendance and dismissal systems are time-consuming, error-prone, and unable to keep up with increasing student numbers, leading to safety risks, communication breakdowns, and congestion during peak hours. The objective of this project is to develop BuddyWheels, a modular AI-powered school commute and attendance management system that enhances student safety, streamlines attendance tracking, and improves communication between parents, teachers, and school guards. By employing Rapid Application Development (RAD), the project utilizes Figma for prototyping user interfaces, with plans of using Firebase Firestore as the backend database and React Native for cross-platform mobile app development. Key features of the app include AI-based racial recognition for mass attendance tracking and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) for secure vehicle pick-up, tailored to the needs of Malaysian schools. The outcome is a scalable, user-friendly solution that automates attendance and dismissal, reduces staff workload, minimizes traffic conges on, and fosters a safer, more connected school environment.
