Abstract
This article examines the cascading economic consequences of conflict in West Asia, arguing that geopolitical instability in the region can generate a broader wave of price increases across global and domestic markets. It highlights the structural relationship between regional conflict, energy supply disruptions, transportation costs, and inflationary pressures, demonstrating how shocks originating in strategically important energy-producing regions can rapidly affect economies far beyond the immediate theatre of conflict. Particular attention is given to the vulnerability of Malaysia and other trade-dependent economies to rising fuel, logistics, food, and production costs, which may subsequently weaken household purchasing power and increase pressures on businesses. The article contends that the economic repercussions of conflict should not be treated as temporary market fluctuations, as prolonged geopolitical instability can produce cumulative and multidimensional effects across national economies. It therefore underscores the need for governments to strengthen economic preparedness, closely monitor supply chains, and adopt timely policy interventions to mitigate the impact of externally generated inflation. The article concludes that conflicts in West Asia increasingly possess global economic consequences, requiring policymakers to recognise energy security, price stability, and supply-chain resilience as interconnected components of national economic and strategic preparedness.
