Abstract

The paper focusses on revivalism movements. It tried to establish the foundation for the future research and study by situating the context within the broader historical, social, and religious context of post-Soviet Islamic revival in Kyrgyzstan. The whole study articulates the research problem, research questions, and research objectives, and defines the analytical framework that guide the investigation. After setting a clear objectives and research problem the study began with an analysis of the radical transformation of Central Asia's religious landscape following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Documents the effects of seventy years of state-imposed military atheism, institutional destruction of Islamic infrastructure, and disruption of Islamic knowledge transmission. This historical legacy created distinctive conditions for post-independence religious revival: overwhelming demand for religious knowledge, rapid institutional reconstruction, and receptivity to transnational influences.
