Abstract
Background: Contemporary nursing knowledge has largely developed within Western theoretical frameworks emphasizing professional competence and patient-centred care, with limited integration of religious worldview and spiritual accountability. In Muslim educational settings, this may create a conceptual gap between nursing practice and Islamic ethical perspectives. The Islamization of Knowledge proposed by Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas offers a framework for aligning modern disciplines with the Islamic worldview while preserving beneficial scientific knowledge. Methods: This narrative review examined literature on Islamization of Knowledge, Maqasid al-Shari‘ah, Islamic legal maxims, spiritual care, and nursing theory. Relevant publications from PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and the International Journal of Care Scholars were analysed thematically to explore the relationship between Islamic worldview, ethics, and clinical decision-making in nursing practice. Results: Four themes emerged: epistemological foundations of nursing theories, nursing as an act of worship, the role of Maqasid al-Shari‘ah in healthcare ethics, and the application of Islamic legal maxims in clinical decisions. The findings suggest that Islamization of Knowledge provides a philosophical basis for integrating Islamic ethical perspectives into nursing, while Maqasid al-Shari‘ah and Islamic legal maxims guide ethical objectives and practical decision-making. Conclusion: This study proposes a framework integrating Islamization of Knowledge, Maqasid al-Shari‘ah, and Islamic legal maxims as complementary layers connecting worldview, ethics, and nursing practice. The framework supports culturally and religiously responsive healthcare by understanding nursing as both professional responsibility and spiritually meaningful service
