Dr. Galvin Sim obtained his bachelor's degree, Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with Dean's List Award, in September 2019 and his Master of Science in Dentistry (MScD) in December 2020 from the School of Dental Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). In January 2021, Dr. Galvin achieved the Diploma of Primary Care Dentistry and Diploma of Membership from the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (Dip PCD RCSI & MFD RCSI), as well as the Diploma of Membership from the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (MFDS RCPSG). In 2022, he earned his second master's degree, Master of Medical Education with distinction, from the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, making him among the youngest dentists in the country to receive a postgraduate education qualification. In 2023, he completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of endodontics from USM, and subsequently awarded the Diploma of Membership from the Faculty of Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFDS RCSEd). His primary interests within the field of dentistry include restorative dentistry, dental materials, endodontics, and dental education.
Dr. Galvin actively engages in various seminars and workshops to expand his knowledge and clinical skills in dentistry. He has also presented his research papers at numerous national and international dental conferences. At the age of 28, he has authored over 55 research articles as the first author in peer-reviewed journals indexed by Web of Science/SCOPUS and has received a total of 18 national and international research awards. Additionally, he served as an undergraduate elective research co-supervisor at the Faculty of Dentistry, MAHSA University, as well as postgraduate research co-supervisors at the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM and the School of Dental Sciences, USM.
Dr. Galvin boasts an extensive professional background in his respective field. He commenced his career as a dental officer at the Ministry of Health Malaysia, dedicating two years to delivering essential oral healthcare services to the public. Subsequently, he transitioned to the Faculty of Dentistry at AIMST University Malaysia, where he assumed the roles of head of department and subject coordinator for the dental materials science course.
His commitment to academic excellence is evident through his involvement in various committees, including the Academic Quality Assurance and Curriculum Committee, Faculty Research, Ethics & Publication Committee, Faculty Academic Scheduling, Faculty Staff Professional Development Committee, Faculty Examination Committee, and the Major Curriculum Review Committee for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery Programme. Furthermore, Dr. Galvin has actively contributed to the Faculty International Articulation initiative. Presently, Dr. Galvin holds the position as assistant professor at the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, International Islamic University Malaysia. In this capacity, he is actively engaged in both teaching and learning activities, as well as contributing to research and publications. Driven by the self-determination theory, his teaching philosophy revolves around the conviction that continuous feedback and unwavering support can inspire students to pursue excellence.
