Md. Abdus Salam has been working as a Professor of Parasitology, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Kulliyyah of Medicine, International Islamic University Malaysia since August 2019. Before resuming this position, he served two years as Professor & HoD of Microbiology, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura, Bangladesh, a second generation public medical college. He also served at the College of Medicine- Jeddah of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, KSA from June 2015 to June 2017 as a faculty in Microbiology. Md. Abdus Salam has been working as a Professor of Parasitology, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Kulliyyah of Medicine, International Islamic University Malaysia since August 2019. Before resuming this position, he served two years as Professor & HoD of Microbiology, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura, Bangladesh, a second generation public medical college. He also served at the College of Medicine- Jeddah of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, KSA from June 2015 to June 2017 as a faculty in Microbiology. He has worked for nearly 18 years as a faculty in Microbiology including 5 years as an Associate Professor at the Rajshahi Medical College, one of the ancient public medical colleges in Bangladesh with avenues for both undergrad and graduate studies. As a medical doctor, he has earned good postgraduate qualifications in medical Microbiology from both home and abroad with excellent academic achievements. As a national topper he was admitted at the then Institute of Postgraduate Medicine & Research (IPGMR), now the Medical University (BSMMU) in Bangladesh and successfully earned an MBBS degree under Dhaka University in 1987. He obtained his Master of Science degree in 'Medical Genetics with Immunology' from Brunel University, London in 1996, followed by MPhil & PhD in Microbiology from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Parallel to academia, he has earned more than two decades of experience in individual as well as collaborative research and supervised a good number of students for their Master of Philosophy in Microbiology research. Prof. Salam has published 85 scientific researches in renowned peer-reviewed and indexed International and national medical journals and co-authored for a text book on Medical Microbiology & Immunology and a short textbook on Immunology. In recognition of his outstanding contributions in academia and research, he was awarded Fellowship (highest category of membership) from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, United Kingdom in 2013, which is a rare distinction for a Medical Microbiologist. He is an internationally recognized outstanding academician and researcher in Parasitology/Microbiology with proven outputs. Prof. Salam has given scientific talks in a number of occasions both at home and International conferences. He has long experience as a reviewer of scientific journal articles and grant proposals and currently, he is the only member from Bangladesh as International Advisor and a reviewer of the Pak J Med Sci, an International peer reviewed impact factor PubMed indexed journal published bi-monthly from Pakistan. Prof. Salam has affiliation/membership with many national and International Professional & scientific organizations. Besides academic and research endeavor, Prof. Salam has been involved for long in practicing laboratory medicine, quality assurance in medical education and mentoring graduate students in Microbiology. He published several original research on diagnostics of Visceral Leishmaniasis, a neglected tropical parasitic disease of great public health importance in reputed International journals and his current interest focuses on Bacterial drug resistance and Cancer biology.
