Abstract
Introduction: To emphasize a holistic work rehabilitation process in ensuring a successful Return to Work (RTW) program. This case report highlights major challenges in the RTW processes implemented to a dental specialist following multiple fracture involving bilateral forearm and right femur fractures. Method: The RTW process consists of contracture management, job analysis, Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE), work conditioning, work hardening. FCE focused on the client's highest physical work demands in tertiary education and clinical tasks, which are strength, dexterity, Range of Motion (ROM) and endurance. Result: Through a well-structured RTW process, therapists managed to identify the barriers and limitations that affect client’s performance at work hence providing appropriate intervention based on his needs and concerns. The client managed to return to his previous occupation with the same employer and job modifications after attending outpatient rehabilitation for three months with an average of 5 hours of therapy per week. Conclusion: The successful return to work in complex cases depends on multiple elements. Client, employer, environmental and social factors should be considered in implementing a work rehabilitation program. Tailored RTW intervention and collaboration among multidisciplinary teams could improve productivity and reduce the risk of prolonged work disability.
