Abstract

Cyber resilience is an important element when relating to the rise of online fraud threats, specifically among students as they are active users of the online platforms. The platforms for their academic purposes and daily activities include the online transaction or e-banking. However, by actively involved on the online platforms make them vulnerable to the online fraud threats imposed by the perpetrators. Developed cyber resilience will eventually help them to prepare for, adapt to and recover from the online fraud threats imposed by the perpetrators. In explaining the impact of the perception, attitude and behavior on cyber resilience towards online fraud threats among International Islamic University Malaysia’s (IIUM) students, this study utilizes Social Exchange Theory (SET). SET helps to understand students’ ability in securing their data and seeking rewards for long-term benefits like gaining extra-knowledge on the cyber-security as part of their preparation to handle stressful events imposed by the perpetrators. The conceptual framework also assumes that during the stressful event imposed by the perpetrators, students are likely to be more alert with the risk of fallen victims for online fraud threats. A quantitative research design is employed, using the survey method with questionnaire as an instrument for data collection. A total of 269 undergraduate students from seven different Kulliyyah participated in this study. Findings show that there is a significant relationship among perception, attitude, behavior, and cyber resilience towards online fraud. Thus, the SET Theory is supported in the study.
