Abstract

This research aims to explore the grammatical errors constructed by the third-year students of Arabic for International Communication (ARCOM) at International Islamic University Malaysia in Digital Media and Communication research papers. This research applies a descriptive analytical approach, whereby the desk research method is implemented to collect the data and obtain the result. In addition, the researcher uses error analysis steps which are likely similar with the steps of error analysis according to Adriana (1999) and Rushdi (1949). Generally, the steps include collecting data, identifying data, classifying the data into groups, correcting, and concluding it with interpretation. The findings illustrate that there are five types of grammatical errors that are typically constructed in students' research, prominently include errors in the law of gender category i.e masculine and feminine in Arabic vocabulary, errors in “ta’rif wa tankir”, errors in grammatical number i.e singular and plural, errors in verb tense and errors in sign of I’rab. The most common grammatical errors found are in the law of gender which is represented by masculine and feminine: (verb 27, adjective 8, noun 4, conjunction 3, possessive pronoun 2, ism’ isyarah 1) with a total number of 46. One of the recommendations that is suggested for further research is for the researchers to discover other linguistic errors such as morphological errors, spelling errors, stylistic errors and other errors which profoundly found in writing research papers.
