Abstract
This paper aims to review definitions and scope of modernity, and to analyze its relation to a specific religion, Islam. It also highlights harmony between progress and Islam based on the examples from the glorious era of Islamic civilization in Andalusia and the Abbasid caliphate in Baghdad where modernity and religion were complementing one another to produce the best innovations of that time. Knowledge creations and technological advancement were strongly developed during that time by numerous renowned Islamic scholars, intellectuals and philosophers.
