Abstract
The National Housing Policy (Dasar Perumahan Negara, DRN) 2026–2035 serves as a strategic framework to guide the development of Malaysia’s housing sector over a ten-year period. Guided by the theme “Humanising Housing”, the policy aims to address key challenges in housing affordability, supply and demand imbalances, social housing provision, housing quality, security of tenure, access to housing financing, and institutional capacity. The policy is structured around six main focus areas: strengthening housing development to create liveable neighbourhoods and cities; aligning housing provision with demographic trends, needs and demand; ensuring quality housing for all; securing housing tenure for everyone; improving housing financing accessibility and affordability; and strengthening institutional delivery for effective policy implementation. It also emphasises evidence-based planning, sustainable urban development, improved coordination among stakeholders, and continuous monitoring of policy outcomes. Through these strategies and action plans for 2026–2035, the policy seeks to establish a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient housing ecosystem that prioritises the well-being of the population. Ultimately, the policy aims to ensure that all segments of society, particularly low- and middle-income households, vulnerable groups and those with special needs, have access to safe, affordable, quality and suitable housing.
