Abstract

يتناول هذا البحث جهود الإمام الترمذي في التأصيل لعلوم الحديث من خلال كتابه "العلل الصغير"، بوصفه نصًا منهجيًا مبكرًا أسهم في وضع أسس علم مصطلح الحديث، حيث تتمحور إشكاليته حول مدى إسهام الترمذي في تقعيد قواعد هذا العلم وتأصيل مصطلحاته، وطبيعة منهجه في ذلك؛ وقد اعتمد الباحث المنهج التحليلي الاستقرائي من خلال دراسة نص "العلل الصغير" واستقراء مضامينه العلمية وتحليل مفاهيمه وقواعده، مع تتبع تطبيقاته في مختلف مباحث علوم الحديث، وقد أظهرت نتائج البحث أن الإمام الترمذي يُعدّ من الرواد الأوائل في التأصيل المنهجي لعلم المصطلح قبل اكتمال تدوينه، إذ قدّم أول تعريف منهجي لمصطلح الحديث الحسن بما أسهم في توسيع دائرة الاحتجاج مع ضبط شروط القبول، كما أسّس لعلم الجرح والتعديل على أسس شرعية وأخلاقية قائمة على حماية السنة، وميّز بدقة بين مراتب الضعف وأسبابه، مفرقًا بين ضعف الحفظ وضعف الكذب مع مراعاة السياق في الحكم على الرواة، وأبرز أهمية الإسناد حتى في نقل أقوال الفقهاء بما يعكس وعيًا عميقًا بمنهج التوثيق، كما وضع أصولًا واضحة لطرق التحمّل والأداء كالسماع والقراءة والمناولة والإجازة، وأظهر إدراكًا لتراتبية العلماء في الحفظ والإتقان وأثر ذلك في تقويم الروايات، مما يجعل "العلل الصغير" نصًا تأسيسيًا ذا قيمة علمية كبيرة في المراحل المبكرة لتشكّل علم مصطلح الحديث. This study examines Imam al-Tirmidhī's contributions to the foundational systematisation of the ḥadīth sciences through his al-ʿIlal al-Ṣaghīr, an early methodological text that played a seminal role in establishing the discipline of muṣṭalaḥ al-ḥadīth. The study investigates the extent to which al-Tirmidhī codified this discipline's principles and grounded its terminology, employing an analytical-inductive approach through close reading, systematic survey, and conceptual analysis of the text alongside tracing its applications across the ḥadīth sciences. The findings establish al-Tirmidhī as one of the earliest pioneers in the systematic methodological grounding of muṣṭalaḥ al-ḥadīth prior to its full codification. His contributions include furnishing the first rigorous definition of al-ḥadīth al-ḥasan, broadening the scope of juristic argumentation whilst tightening conditions of acceptance; grounding al-jarḥ wa-l-taʿdīl upon juridical and ethical foundations oriented towards preserving the Prophetic Sunna; and precisely differentiating between degrees and causes of narrator weakness — notably between deficient memory and deliberate fabrication — with due regard to contextual assessment. He further affirmed the indispensability of the isnād even in transmitting juristic opinions, articulated clear principles governing the modes of reception and transmission (al-samāʿ, al-qirāʾa, al-munāwala, and al-ijāza), and demonstrated nuanced appreciation of scholarly hierarchy in retention and precision and its bearing on the evaluation of transmitted reports. These contributions confirm that al-ʿIlal al-Ṣaghīr constitutes a foundational text of considerable scholarly significance within the early formative period of muṣṭalaḥ al-ḥadīth.
