Abstract

This study develops a conceptual model to understand the demand drivers for residential greenhouses in Malaysia. The model examines economic motivations, environmental awareness, socio-psychological factors, and religious values as key determinants influencing the willingness to purchase greenhouses. Economic motivations are analyzed through purchasing power and perceived private benefits. Environmental awareness, rooted in Islamic environmental stewardship, highlights the moral obligation to protect natural resources. Socio-psychological factors, including the sense of honor and trend perception, are explored to understand their impact on consumer behavior. Religious values are proposed as a moderating variable, significantly influencing green purchase intentions. The study suggests that integrating religious endorsements, financial incentives, and public education campaigns can effectively promote green housing adoption. The findings provide a comprehensive framework for understanding green consumer behavior in Malaysia and offer policy implications for promoting sustainable housing practices.
