Abstract
1. Introduction The global demand for halal products continues to rise as consumers increasingly prioritize both quality and halal certification in their food choices. However, ensuring the integrity of halal products remains a significant challenge, compounded by emerging issues that have heightened concerns among consumers and regulators alike (Tieman, 2014; Arshad et al., 2018). As these challenges grow, particularly considering recent high-profile cases of food fraud, there is an urgent need for stakeholders within the halal industry to intensify their efforts to protect consumer trust and maintain the authenticity of halal products. In Malaysia, despite its reputation as a global leader in the halal sector (Azam & Abdullah, 2020), there is a notable reluctance among individuals to report unethical practices within businesses. This hesitance is attributed to a combination of factors, including the unique nature and structure of Malaysian public-listed companies (PLCs), regulatory weaknesses, and cultural characteristics such as uncertainty avoidance, power distance, and societal collectivism (Rachagan & Kuppusamy, 2013).
