Abstract

This case report presents the use of Religiously Integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (RCBT) in a 42- year-old Muslim male diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), cardiomyopathy, major depressive disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The patient exhibited non-adherence to dialysis and medications, alongside spiritual disengagement. A ten-session RCBT intervention based on Islamicintegrated CBT principles was conducted, combining conventional CBT strategies with Islamic concepts such as sabr, tawakkul, and Qur’anic reframing. Clinical interviews guided the therapeutic approach due to physical limitations. The therapy resulted in improved treatment adherence, mood stabilization, and renewed spiritual connection. This case underscores the cultural relevance and therapeutic value of RCBT in managing comorbid psychiatric conditions in chronically ill Muslim patients.
