Abstract

This paper examines the accessibility of para sport building facilities, focusing on the Malaysia Paralympic Sports Excellence Centre in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur as a case study. Key challenges, such as barriers in mobility, inadequate adaptive equipment, and the needs for inclusive amenities, are highlighted. Other issues, there is lacking in term of not providing accessible plan, aid tools for hearing impairment user, maintenance problem for toilet and tiles and others. Accessibility in para sport facilities is crucial to ensuring inclusivity, safety, and optimal performance for athletes with disabilities. The study evaluates the accessibility of facility provided at para sport building and compliance with Malaysian standards on universal design. Methodology used is using literature review and observation of the case study using Access Audit Manual and Access Audit Checklist Star Rating. The findings of the case studies of the sport buildings has providing a lot of facilities for access to Person with Disabilities (PwDs) especially to wheelchair user by providing the ramp for any different level, PwDs toilet, lift, kerb ramp and others. Findings suggest that while progress has been made, further improvements in design policies, technological integration, and stakeholder engagement are necessary to create truly accessible sporting environments. This paper contributes to the discourse on inclusive sports infrastructure, offering insights for policymakers, architects, and sports administrators to enhance accessibility in para sport facilities.
