Abstract

Islam provides solutions for all issues of human life. An important issue during the present times is using the Internet. It has numerous benefits and disadvantages. Its disadvantages are so powerful, effective and harmful that if any Muslim uses it without following precautionary ethics, he/she will be misguided and derailed from the right path, which ultimately will cause him/her not to be successful in this world and the hereafter. Islam can provide comprehensive ethics for using the Internet, which can protect a Muslim from being deviated from the right path. The primary objective of this paper is to produce a code of ethics for using the Internet focusing on issues related to sex and marriage. To accomplish this objective, the analytical method will be used for analyzing the related Qur’anic verses, and ahadith of the Prophet ) صلى الله عليه وسلم (and maqasidiq view points .Some important findings are that communication with the opposite sex on the Internet should be free from obscene and immoral remarks; and the Internet should not be used for immoral intimate relationships. The researcher expects that the output of this paper will be beneficial for all Muslims who want to use the Internet and, simultaneously, protect their Din (religion of Islam) and good character for the sake of Allah ( سبحانه وتعالى (.The researcher recommends that Muslim scholars should produce a comprehensive code of Islamic ethics for using the Internet for different types of activities.
