Abstract
This paper investigates the characteristics of laminar flow of a Newtonian fluid inside a lid-driven cavity that consists of a solid circular block and how the size of the solid circular block affects the velocity profiles of the Newtonian fluid. The fluid flow is driven by the top lid that moves to the right while the other lids remain stationary.By solving the Navier-Stokes equation using finite element method and automated solution technique, FEniCS, the velocity profile of the fluid flow can be observed. The study finds that, when the size of circular block increases, the velocity of the Newtonian fluid decreases. This research aims to provide information regarding the effects of various block sizes on fluid flow in a lid-driven cavity that will contribute to greater knowledge of fluid behaviour and its relevance to practical applications.
