Abstract
Malaysia is a Muslim-majority country, with an estimated 61.30% of its total population being Muslim in 2023. This statistic highlights the demand for a halal food supply to meet the needs of the Muslim community. However, there is a shortage in the supply of non-ruminant halal livestock commodities, such as poultry, duck, and eggs, as Malaysia continues to rely on imported products. Current practices are insufficient to address this issue, as the number of non-ruminant livestock farms remains limited, dominated by large-scale enterprises with high stock prices that burden the public. Therefore, this study examines the importance of non-ruminant halal livestock commodities through crowdfunding initiatives and explores ways to develop these commodities using waqf crowdfunding to achieve national food security. The study employs a qualitative and descriptive cross-sectional analysis, utilizing existing legal frameworks and data obtained from relevant administrative bodies. For comparative analysis, the study also refers the waqf crowdfunding model in Indonesia. The study suggests that Malaysia should develop a plan to enhance food security sustainability to meet domestic market demand by establishing non-ruminant halal livestock commodities through waqf crowdfunding. This model could serve as a guideline for the government to manage the suitability of waqf crowdfunding approaches, with the potential to be applied in non-ruminant halal livestock projects, aiming to boost food security, reduce supply shortages, and address the high stock prices burdening society.
