Abstract

Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre @IIUM (SASMEC @IIUM) is one of the university teaching hospitals that was established in July 2016. Throughout its eight (8) years of establishment, the hospital has achieved groundbreaking records as the first teaching hospital certified for Shariah-based Quality Management System and managed to be the founder of the first Shariah compliant human milk bank. Important to note that both pioneering achievements have been documented in the Malaysia Book of Records. This fundamental collection of 41 authentic case studies are penned by backbones of the hospital who have spent sweat and tears in setting up the institution which is now globally known worldwide. From the stories of setting up facilities, to the challenges of becoming the Shariah-compliant institution, and to the development of values-centered concepts, all narratives were elaborated in a comprehensive manner where readers could relate closely with the writers. Throughout the whole process, delivering compassion is being emphasized in all aspects, where it reverberates the core values of the hospital; Responsibility, Excellence, Sincerity, Trust, and Unity. It is hoped that the book may serve not just as another book on the shelf, but also a reference that can shed light to many healthcare practitioners in paving the way to manifest the concept of Shariah Compliant Hospital
