Abstract

Obviously, nowadays we are living in global village where people throughout the world are interconnected through the use of new media techniques. Thanks to advancement and rapid development in information and communication technology (ICT). Based on this fact, religion can not be excluded from our global village ; because if religion is not part of our global problems, it might be part of its solutions. Therefore, inter-faith dialogue and peaceful co-existence especially between Muslims and non- Muslims is gaining momentum nowadays. As a matter of fact, Islam as the sealed of Abrahamic faiths has urged the Muslim Ummah to engage in dialogue with other religious communities for the sake of mutual understanding, love, cooperation, respect and for the cause of mutual understanding. Etymologically, the word dialogue is derived from dia (across, through) and logos (conversation, word). In the Qur’an the closest word for dialogue is Yuhawiruhu (18:34, 18:37) which denotes the conversation between two individuals or group of people. More generally, in the Islamic tradition, conversation between individuals groups and religion is seen as key for better living. Furthermore, Islam which bases its name on salam (commitment to peace) and one of God’s names in Islam is salam (the peaceful), in this way peaceful coexistence and living specially, between Muslims and non-Muslims are very essential, and they should be enjoyed by all Muslims. Thus, this conference paper by applying Quranic approach aims to explore vis-a vis the Quranic perspectives of Interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims, and how does the holy Qur’an (the seal of revelations) deals with these core values. Finally, the paper will provide a brief conclusion and some recommendations.
